In the lush, rolling fields of Ndlandlameni, kuBulunga, in Eswatini,  I’ve carved out more than just a living. I’ve built a legacy. My name is Nokuthula Mkhabela-Matsabela, and I’m not just a farmer. I’m a woman on a mission to transform agriculture in Eswatini.

Farming runs through my veins. Over the years, I’ve poured my heart into raising everything from turkeys, geese, peacocks, Boer goats, cows, rabbits, guinea fowl, doves, chickens—even domestic guinea pigs! And that’s just the livestock. I also grow vegetables, maize, fruit trees, and run buzzing beekeeping operations. My farm is a celebration of diversity, sustainability, and bold ambition.

I didn’t go to school for this I taught myself. I learned through trial, error, and sheer determination. There were tough seasons, moments of doubt, and plenty of obstacles. But I kept going. Today, I’m proud to say that farming has not only fed my family it has built our future. It’s allowed me to send my children to school, invest in real estate, and run a successful retail business.

Farming has given me true independence,” I often say. “I don’t have to rely on anyone. I’ve given my children the best start in life and I did it with my own two hands.”

But I’m not stopping there. I’m committed to lifting others as I rise. Farmers across the country especially goat farmers come to me for advice, mentorship, and starter stock. My produce is in high demand, and I’ve been blessed with contracts, awards, and recognition, including top honors in the Women Farmer competition.

This Women's spotlight period, I stand proud not just for what I’ve built, but for the doors I’m opening for others. Because in Eswatini, women aren’t just working the land—we’re owning it, shaping it, and leading the charge toward a food-secure future.
