Objectives of the action

The overall objective is to strengthen the capacity of SADC Member States (MS) to undertake regional and national adaptation and mitigation actions in response to the challenges caused by the effects of global climate change and climate variability.

The specific objective is to support capacity building of SADC MS to integrate climate change into agriculture programmes and investments through promoting climate smart agriculture (CSA).

Target group(s)

National agricultural research systems (NARS): agricultural researchers/scientists; extension agents and advisory services providers; and seed producers and suppliers.

Smallholder farmers particularly women and youth in SADC MS

Estimated results

Outcome: Enhanced capacity of SADC MS to integrate climate change into agriculture programmes and investments through promoting climate smart agriculture (CSA)

Output 1: Smallholder farmers using CSA and other Conservation Agriculture practices  

Output 2: SADC member states accessing CSA information products and using it to review agriculture policies, strategies and programmes

Output 3: Value chain actors accessing technologies and innovations that promote CSA practices

Output 4: Value chain actors acquiring knowledge on CSA technologies and practices

Main activities

Activity 1.1: Develop and share knowledge products for CSA

Activity 1.2: Design and generate scientific evidence on CSA technologies and practices

Activity 2.1: Improve the CCARDESA Information, Communication and Knowledge Management (ICKM) system

Activity 3.1: Engage regional and national platforms that promote climate smart technologies and innovations

Activity 3.2: Test, adapt, disseminate and scale up CSA technologies  

Activity 4.1: Train value chain actors on CSA technologies

Activity 4.2: Undertake technical follow ups with MS
