INDIVIDUAL CONSULTANT SELECTION
Assignment Title: Facilitation of Media Training on Rangeland Management and Herding for Health (H4H), July 29th to 31st 2025, in Livingstone, Zambia
The Centre for Coordination of Agricultural Research and Development for Southern Africa (CCARDESA) has received financing from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH: equivalent to EUR 1,562,000.00 towards the cost of Growing Greener: Restoration and sustainable agropastoral systems in open arid landscapes across Southern Africa (Growing Greener) Project and intends to apply a portion of the proceeds of this grant towards eligible payments under this contract.
CCARDESA is a subsidiary organization of SADC and has the mandate of coordinating all matters of agricultural research and development in the SADC region. It facilitates implementation of various projects including GIZ Hearding for Health (H4H) Project.
The primary objective of this assignment is to support CCARDESA, in collaboration with GIZ, the Peace Parks Foundation, and Conservation International, to organise a media training workshop on Rangeland Management and Herding for Health (H4H) from July 29 to 31, 2025, in Livingstone, Zambia. The aim of the workshop is to build media capacity for reporting on sustainable land use, biodiversity, and climate-smart agriculture.
To support this, CCARDESA seeks to engage a Media Consultant to provide technical guidance in media coaching, story development, and content packaging.
The scope of the assignment will include but not limited to the following tasks:
- Provide hands-on guidance and mentorship to journalists on impactful storytelling, media ethics, and digital content development.
- Support the facilitation of story development sessions to ensure quality, inclusivity, and technical accuracy.
- Assist in refining participants’ media products (articles, interviews, videos) during the workshop
- Provide expert input during panel discussions and dialogue sessions.
- Package at least 10 flagship stories from the training to be published through CCARDESA’s platforms and partner outlets.
- Review training content and provide input into the story development segment of the programme
- Deliver a session on crafting stories for Impact in Environmental journalism
The Centre for Coordination of Agricultural Research and Development for Southern Africa now invites eligible individual consultants to indicate their interest in providing the Services. Interested consultants should provide information (Comprehensive CVs that show description of similar assignments, experience in similar conditions) demonstrating that they have the required qualifications and relevant experience to perform the Services.
The shortlisting criteria are:
- Bachelor's Degree or Masters in Communications or Media or Journalism or any closely related field.
- Proven experience in Media production for development programs.
- Understanding of rangeland management and community training is an advantage
- Familiarity with SADC regional policies, CCARDESA’s mandate, and rangeland management or agroecology principles.
- Experience working in the SADC region.
- Demonstrable ability to write very clear reports,
- Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team;
- Good interpersonal skills and experience in working with a diverse group of people;
- Experience in working in Southern African countries, especially for international organisations in the agricultural sector; and
- Knowledge of SADC languages would be an added advantage
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in media training, environmental/agricultural journalism, or communication consultancy.
- Proven track record of published work in sustainable development or climate change topics.
- Excellent editing, writing, and mentoring skills
The Consultant will be selected in accordance with the individual Consultancy method set out in the CCARDESA Procurement Manual.
